United Way of the Midlands & Richland Library host Breaking Barriers Employment Resource Fair on October 4
Columbia, S.C. (September 27, 2019) – United Way of the Midlands and Richland Library will host the fourth annual Breaking Barriers Employment Resource Fair on Friday, October 4 from 9 a.m. – noon at the Richland Library Main located at 1431 Assembly Street.
The event encourages those experiencing unemployment due to barriers, such as lack of higher education, homelessness, lack of transportation, physical disabilities or a criminal background, to secure long-term employment. The event is free and open to the public.
“Breaking Barriers was created to reduce impediments to employment and provide resources that allow members in the community to move along a path of self-sufficiency and financial stability. Richland Library is a valued partner in our fight to improve economic mobility,” said Sara Fawcett, President and CEO of United Way of the Midlands.
“Richland Library is dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for our entire community. By partnering with the United Way of the Midlands and offering this free program, we are able to break down barriers, provide access for all, and connect local residents with valuable resources,” said Lee Patterson, Social Work Manager, Richland Library.
Participating employers are located in Columbia, Lexington, Newberry and West Columbia and include Bank of America, The COMET, U.S. Census Bureau, Kraft Heinz-Newberry, Waffle House, SCDMV, TogetherSC, Tyson Foods, Goodwill Industries and more.
Attendees will have the opportunity to speak with employment resource providers with programs focused on education and job skills training, career development and money management. Employee resource providers attending the fair include Project NAS (Not A Statistic), South Carolina Youth Challenge, Bamberg Job Corps, Midlands Fatherhood Coalition, and many more.
