United Way of the Midlands continues to gain support for its Resilient Richland movement as a recipient of Sisters of Charity Foundation of SC’s 2019 Community Enrichment Grant

Columbia, S.C. (September 20, 2019) – United Way of the Midlands was one of 23 nonprofit organizations to receive a Community Enrichment Grant funding from Sisters of Charity Foundation of South Carolina. The Community Enrichment Grant is issued to South Carolina nonprofits who implement best practices to address the root causes of poverty.

“Our Community Enrichment grantee partners go beyond the expectation of assisting people who experience poverty – they work to interrupt the cycle of poverty altogether. The Foundation applauds their work to address the root causes of poverty in their respective communities,” said Tom Keith, president of Sisters of Charity Foundation of South Carolina.

United Way of the Midlands received the $25,000 grant to support its Resilient Richland movement. Specifically, United Way and the other Resilient Richland partners provide youth and resiliency trainings that are targeted for anyone who interacts with children and youth on a regular basis. Resilient Richland aims to reduce the stigma of trauma and equip individuals and organizations with information and skills to build resilience among children and youth. A list of trainings can be found by visiting uway.org/events.

“We’re incredibly grateful that Sisters of Charity supports the work we have been doing in our community to bring awareness to the damaging effects of childhood trauma,” said Sara Fawcett, United Way of the Midlands President and CEO. “This grant allows us to continue offering important trainings to help those who work closely with our youth to have the knowledge and skills to identify when a child has experienced or is experiencing trauma, and the know-how to provide proper resources.”

This year’s Community Enrichment grant recipients serve 27 South Carolina counties, and several of these nonprofits provide services across the state.
