Women in Philanthropy awards $50,000 in grants to Homeless No More and Able SC
Columbia, S.C. (May 27, 2021) – Women in Philanthropy (WIP), an affinity group of United Way of the Midlands, awards a combined $50,000 in grants to further WIP’s work to improve financial stability among women and women with children. WIP selected Homeless No More and Able SC as its 2021 grantees to help fund children’s afterschool and summer camp programs and financial literacy programs for women with disabling conditions.
“We’re glad we can provide resources to assist women and their families in our community,” said Kristin Scott, 2021-2022 WIP Chair. “WIP’s partnership with Able SC and Homeless No More will help women in the Midlands achieve financial mobility and self-sufficiency.”
As applicants for United Way of the Midlands grants submitted applications, they had the opportunity to express their interest in being considered by WIP. WIP’s Grants and Investment team reviewed those eight applications based on those serving WIP’s focus population of women and women with children, application quality, return on investment, and those that may have volunteer opportunities for WIP members.
For Fiscal Year 2021-22, WIP’s team awarded the following grants:
Homeless No More ($25,000) will use funds to support its afterschool and summer camp programs for children in its programs, plus operating support for Family Shelter, the community’s only shelter facility serving families with children regardless of age or family composition. Funds will support 70 households with emergency shelter and 30 students in afterschool and summer programs.
Able SC ($25,000) will use funds to support its program to help women living with disabilities achieve greater financial stability through workforce and financial management skills development.
