BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina donates $100,000 to support Midlands’ residents impacted by pandemic
Columbia, S.C. (April 13, 2020) – BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina donated $100,000 to United Way of the Midlands COVID-19 Response Fund, which supports Community Impact Partners in Richland, Lexington, Fairfield, Newberry, Orangeburg and Calhoun counties affected by the pandemic
The insurer’s contribution is going to direct service support and will not be funding United Way of the Midlands’ administrative costs.
COVID-19 Response Fund donations will be used to address the immediate and significant increase in community need due to the pandemic. Our agencies partners will use BlueCross’ donation and others to support individuals, youth and families experiencing homelessness, emergency financial assistance for utilities and rental assistance, food bank programs and services for people experiencing mental illness.
“We have a long association with BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina and we are very appreciative for its most recent donation to help the communities we serve,” said Sara Fawcett, president and CEO of United Way of the Midlands. “We know the overall impact of this unprecedented public health crisis will have rippling and long-term effects. People will continue to face increased risk of hardships and we will continue to be called upon to meet their unmet needs. This contribution will support us in those efforts.”
United Way is working with Community Impact Partners to identify the highest priorities for basic needs and will work through them to assist individuals and families.
