• Clothing Bank Reset

  • Description: The Cooperative Ministry provides a 3,200 square foot clothing bank 'store setting' where clients can 'shop' for the free clothing they need for work and school. Volunteers are needed to reset the clothing bank each afternoon (and Friday morning) for the next day's client shoppers. There is a lot of standing. Service includes sorting, tagging, and racking clothes in appropriate places. A Client Confidentiality form is required of all volunteers. A Media Release form is optional. Volunteers are encouraged to bring a water bottle as needed.

Groups can vary in size. KMB has a list of "litter hotspots" where volunteers can focused on highly concentrated litter areas.

What is Volunteer Week 2025?

Volunteer Week is a week-long initiative from April 21-26 where 1,000 volunteers across 100 teams will complete 100 impactful projects while raising funds to support education, housing, and healthcare programs in the Midlands.

Who can participate?

Anyone! Businesses, community groups, families, and individuals can all form or join a team. Each team consists of 5-10 volunteers.

How do I sign up?

Browse the available projects above and click the link for the project(s) you’re interested in to sign up! You will need an account with our Volunteer Center to register for a project.

Can my company or organization sponsor Volunteer Week?

Yes! Sponsorship opportunities are available. Contact Sheldon Paschal at spaschal@uway.org for details.

What kind of projects are available?

Volunteers can choose from hands-on opportunities such as:

• Packing food at Harvest Hope
• Delivering meals to homebound seniors with Senior Resources
• Reading to students with Vital Connections
• Cleaning up at Transitions Homeless Shelter

Can kids participate?

Each opportunity has specific age limits. As long as your child meets the age requirement for a project, they are welcome to join.

If I bring my child, are they expected to raise funds as well?

No, children are not required to fundraise. However, this is a great opportunity to teach them about the importance of giving back to the community.

Do I need special skills to volunteer?

No special skills are required! Each project will have instructions and support from the host organization.

What should I bring to my volunteer shift?

Wear comfortable clothing and closed-toe shoes. Some projects may require specific items, which will be listed in your confirmation details.

Why is fundraising part of Volunteer Week 2025?

Essential programs require funding to provide critical services to those in need. By raising funds, you are helping sustain programs that support education, housing, and healthcare. You can be part of making your community a better place through action-based giving.

How are funds distributed?

• 50/50 Split – Between United Way of the Midlands and its impact partners.
• 75/25 Split – For local organizations beyond United Way’s direct partnerships.
