Past and Present

Reflection on the Past Day of Action:

Thank you all so much again for coming out and volunteering on another successful Day of Action held over the Martin Luther King Holiday! You truly helped make last Monday “a day on, rather than a day off” and we cannot thank you enough for your hard work. We were able to help seven of our partner agencies with various volunteer needs, which were just seven of the hundreds of projects going on all across the Midlands that day. Please keep providing us with feedback on your volunteering experience so we can continue to improve upon the Day of Action. Be on the look out for projects that you might be interested in and feel free to create your own Day of Action or begin signing up to volunteer on April 24 on our next sponsored day of service.

Looking toward the Future:

We continue to have many volunteering opportunities availabe in the Midlands on any day of the week at any time. We are flexible and always eager to work with you to fit your volunteer needs. We currently have two opportunities that we are really excited about.

The first one being the VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) program. Volunteers are already going out into the community to help individuals with their taxes, but more volunteers are always needed! Please refer to our website to learn more and sign up if you are interested in helping members of your community file their taxes this year.

The second opportunity we are eager for your assistance with is Five Point’s annual St. Patrick’s Day Festival. We are calling on all you volunteers out there to help The Five Points Association on Saturday, March 14 with set up and clean up of this time honored event. Volunteers are needed in two shifts from 8am-2pm and then from 2pm-8pm. We are really excited to be a part of this event this year and excited to provide this opportunity to the community. Head on over to our website to sign up to volunteer today!

It is alway an honor to continue to provide aid and assistance to this community and such a privilege to work with all of you out there on a regular volunteering basis. Keep the comments coming and as always thanks for your support in helping us to LIVE UNITED!

September Day of Action Success!

November 11th, 2008

September 26, 2008 marked another successful Day of Action for the United Way of the Midlands and the Volunteer Center.  Over 800 individuals volunteered their time to 60 different projects throughout the Midlands.  This Day of Action allowed many volunteers to make a positive impact on their host organization and the community as a whole.  Majority of those volunteers felt that this experience allowed them to both learn more about the mission and the work of various non-profit agencies in the area.  Even better news is that most of those who volunteered with us in this last Day of Action said they would love to participate again!

We have been able to gather a great amount of feedback through a survey we sent out to all those who participated with us.  However, if you have additional feedback that you wish to offer or ideas that you think would help us in future Days of Action we would love to hear about it.  Please feel free to comment below and let us know what we can improve upon.

Our next Day of Action will be held on Monday, January 19th and it’s never too soon to start signing up.  If you want to be a part of this next great effort to give back to the Midlands make sure to let us know and sign up on our website.  Help us continue to LIVE UNITED in the Midlands and keep the feedback coming!!  Thanks!

Welcome Volunteers!

October 14th, 2008

The United Way of the Midlands is excited to welcome you to our new Volunteer Center blog!  We are looking forward to using this blog as a communication tool that will help us to better serve the Midlands community and all of you volunteers out there.  We truly would not be here without you and we cannot thank you enough for everything you have helped us with thus far!

We want to encourage volunteers to comment on our blogs.  Let us know what you are looking for and what has worked for you in the past?  How do you wish for us to serve you better in the future so that we can make a larger impact on the Midlands?

With that said let the feedback begin and look for many more posts to come!  Thank you again!
