December 2009: Kevin Staggers/United Way of the Midlands (UWM)
1. Where are you from? I am from Lexington, SC.
2. What were you doing before becoming an AmeriCorps VISTA?Before becoming a VISTA I had finished attending school at the College of Charleston and was working at a hotel.
3. Why did you join AmeriCorps VISTA?
Around my junior year of college I became extremely involved with a
variety of campus service organizations (i.e., Habitat for Humanity)
and even started my own student organization that focused on community
service.
4. What are your duties as a VISTA?Currently I handle the daily administrative and training activities for our UWM VISTA Partnership (VISTA Leader).
5. What are your goals from your year of service?
One of my goals is to develop a webpage providing AmeriCorps*VISTA
information and resources. Another goals is to design meaningful VISTA
trainings/resources that can be used after my departure as VISTA Leader.
6. What are your plans after your year of service? After this year of service I plan on attending the University of South Carolina (MPA Program).
7. Any special accomplishments? I created the UWM AmeriCorps*VISTA webpage.
Kevin is currently working on
developing new training activities for VISTAs along with streamlining
the VISTA record keeping process. In addition he will be working on
creating a MLK Service Project for his VISTAs. If you have any
