Women in Philanthropy (WIP)
Women in Philanthropy was founded in 2002 by 16 businesswomen and community activists in the Columbia area. A partnership of United Way of the Midlands and the Central Carolina Community Foundation, Women in Philanthropy was the first major women's philanthropic leadership initiative organized to serve the Midlands. With a mission to transform the South Carolina Midlands community through active and collective philanthropic investment, Women in Philanthropy seeks to create positive, measurable, long-term change in the lives of women and children by focusing on root causes and pooling resources to increase impact.
In addition to community philanthropy, Women in Philanthropy stimulates positive change in community leadership by increasing women's involvement in the community, increasing women's community networks and increasing the personal development of all women involved. Power of the Purse is WIP's signature annual event.
Festivities include a silent auction, a live auction, prizes for purses in numerous categories, and an update on the impact Women in Philanthropy is having in our community.
