Hey, Let's Play: Exploring How Play Supports Social Development

Have you ever wondered if there is any real benefit to children’s play?  How do children learn social skills?  In this session we will define what play means, learn how to support and encourage children's play, the importance of play and its developmental benefits, review the types of play, how peers influence social development, the functions of friends and how friendship develops as children play with each other.  Participants will work to develop classroom activities that encourage children to develop good social choices, and they will develop a “recipe” to share with their classroom on the ingredients needed to make a friend.
