Goal Reached!

Fore the Kids, Fore their Futures

Since its inception, Driving Down Main has brought essential industries within the Midlands together so they can connect through friendly competition and experience the joy of giving back to their community. Through challenges brought on by COVID-19, we've redefined togetherness in how we engage with one another––on and off the course.

While COVID-19 is still far from a thing of the past, there is still opportunity to network internally and show continued support for various industries and their commitment to serve. Our event will be benefitting Midlands Reading Consortium (MRC). MRC is a library of early childhood learning services geared at ensuring students can read on grade level by 3rd grade.

For over 15 years, MRC has focused on improving and supporting education in our community with a range of your development programs centered on literacy and the love of reading.

Here are a few ways you can make a difference by getting involved with Driving Down Main.

  2. Be a Champion Fore the Kids

A strong foundation of reading greatly impacts a child’s success in school and beyond. During this past year, families in the Midlands struggled with disrupted education and stressful situations at school and at home. With a united front, we can help every child in the Midlands get the strong start they deserve and the bright future they’ve been working towards.

Feel free to use this outreach template to engage others and/or let us know how me might be able to aid you with your efforts.

  3. Be A Book Bunny

United Way of the Midlands’ Young Leaders Society "Be a Book Bunny” Initiative distributes literacy bags to over 650 students served by the Midlands Reading Consortium to help children build personal libraries at home. The volunteer-led book distribution encourages reading both in and out of the classroom to help kids develop healthy reading habits that will serve them well for the rest of their lives.

Through the "Be a Book Bunny” Initiative, MRC and Young Leaders Society have distributed 14,696 books to children in the Midlands to begin home libraries.

We believe there is always more to give. If you're considering being a part of Driving Down Main, we're offering the opportunity for you to bring a book from MRC's Amazon Book Wish List!

Why Golf?

Each year, golf tournaments serve as a great way for non-profits to raise life-changing funds, increase awareness around a community issue and bring people together. Due to the pandemic, social distancing has forced us apart and the needs in our community have experienced a surge in demand––particularly on the home front.

This past year, the students in the Midlands have struggled with disrupted education and stressful situations at school and at home. The hardships have taken a toll on many, especially on children from communities of color, in under-resourced neighborhoods, or those already facing trauma or disability. Now, the need for fundraising is even greater than ever before.

During this time of schedule disruption and isolation, Driving Down Main offers us a unique, safe way to come together to provide extra support to these students and their families as they adapt to a school year like no other. We encourage you to join us in supporting Driving Down Main this year, hopefully, play a few holes of virtual golf and show the Midlands that our compassion defies distance. Let’s rally together to make life better for everyone; especially, Fore the Kids!
