Basic Information on the Stimulus Plan for Non-profits
On February 17, 2009 President Obama signed into law the American Recovery & Reinvestment Act of 2009 (commonly called 'ARRA' or the 'Stimulus bill'). United Way of the Midlands is working to make information on potential funding opportunities for non-profits available.

Federal Homeless Prevention Funding Through Local Governments:
Local governments in the Midlands will receive new funding to help people at risk of homelessness. Non-profits are eligible to apply for activities such as short (3 months) and medium-term (18 month) rent assistance, utility deposits and payments, moving costs, motel/hotel vouchers, and help to get people back into housing quickly via case management and credit counseling.
Locally, the following stimulus dollars will be provided:
Columbia: $524,731
Richland: $568,201
Lexington: $588,970

Richland County has been allocated $568,201 in Homelessness Prevention and Rapid Re-Housing Program (HPRP) in 2009. The purpose of the HPRP is to provide homelessness prevention assistance to households who would otherwise become homelessness and re-house individuals or families who are homeless. The objective is to stabilize housing for individuals and families. Richland County will be seeking to fund agencies through the Request for Proposal (RFP) process. Agencies that can provide an array of services to assist eligible program participants that meet the criteria of this program are encouraged to apply.
